If you go to the website they post, http://Genworth.com/celebrates, you will be taken to their Facebook website fan page and invited to join. I was surprised by this, I confess. But the rumors that Facebook has gained a strong following among those 50 and older must have some validity, as there were many posts from caregivers who would have to be in that demographic. (Even though I’m a few years younger than that, you can connect to me on Facebook at Karen Tinsley-Kim or on Twitter (see left) with @tinsleykim.)

I attempted to applaud Genworth’s noble recognition of caregivers on their Facebook page by announcing that I still had some Redema Ottoman Footrests left for either the heroes (caregivers) or for those the heroes were caring for at the very affordable price of only S&H. But, they’ve gotten wise to me! I cannot post there anymore. I’m not a caregiver at this time in my life, so I don’t have a direct story to post.

(My grandfather, in his mid 90′s — who by the way loves his Redema, and so does my grandmother — she in her 80′s who cares deeply for him. They have exemplified a model marriage and they are without question both heroes for me!)

But the fact Genworth Financial doesn’t allow advertising stop you from visiting, becoming a fan, or even posting your story. The Christmas Season is about giving. Give your story there if you have one to share. You are welcome to do so here as well!

But, I do love the idea of being the caregiver’s caregiver. You see, my temptation to post was strong, as it seems to me most of those who have acquired a Redema Ottoman Footrest on this website did so for someone else they love — not themselves. (Sometimes the braver ones will “re-order” one for their use. )

I also applaud the heroism of the countless unrecognized caregivers. I wish I could give a Redema to all those who would benefit from having one, but somewhat like the caregivers, the Redema Ottoman Footrest remains relatively unknown.

So my plea is this — if you know a caregiver, consider getting them a Redema to offer them a well-deserved rest. If you know someone who physically needs the ease of adjustable elevation, get them one now.

As it is, I don’t know how much longer I will have them to even be able to give them away for S&H only. But, my chances are better that the Redema could have a recognized and extended future if you will return to this blog or e-mail me at admin@redema.us to tell your Redema story. I guess that would qualify you as a Redema Hero, too — how’s that?

Being that the Redema Ottoman Footrests I still have are no longer suitable for store shelves, and I’ve had so much fun getting them to people who need them, I’m extending my promotion for the month of October. I like giving them away in exchange for your Redema story, but my shopping cart system continues to be frustrated with my freebie numbers.

I reached the finalist stage for the first time this summer with Bed, Bath and Beyond via Edison Nation, but did not succeed in being selected at that time. I’m in the running for some other opportunities with Bed, Bath and Beyond, as well as some other fine companies, but it will be some months before I know how those turn out.

This recent achievement of reaching Finalist status is with a much bigger retailer, and I confess I don’t know if I’m supposed to tell. Suffice it to say it is the largest in the world. It is also one of the most challenging to contact with new ideas. So, I have to say I’m just a little excited that the Redema will at least get a passing glance from some powerful eyes. (I’ll still have to wait a number of weeks before I know if I’ve achieved the Success level, but Thanksgiving will certainly be abundant in every way if I should!)

I’m thrilled I’ve gotten this far, but it has been very satisfying to know how much the Redema has helped so many people. Thank you to those of you who have been willing to test out this new product, and even more thanks to those of you who have graciously shared your stories in return. They are priceless.

I truly hope the day will come soon you can proudly say, “I got one of the originals,” as your friends and family go to buy a Redema Ottoman Footrest for themselves in a well-known store. Then our wonderful little secret for portable and adjustable comfort will be out, won’t it?

I believe in the Redema very much and continue to use it daily. I’m just having trouble getting the attention I need for the Redema so it can be even more accessible to your family and friends. Many of the stores I’ve approached over the last year or two are no longer in business, and for the ones that remain, the competition has been fierce.

Being a full-time university instructor and mom of three young men has not afforded me the time or funds to adequately market this product. However, I am grateful and pleased with the progress I’ve made thus far to actually get the Redema patented (US Utility Patent #7,464,991), thanks to the great help of family and friends.

Frankly, I’ve been at this long enough that my current packaging needs to be redone. They are not suitable for store shelves anymore. But instead of letting these Redemas go to waste, I’m giving them away with the expectation that all of you will help me get the Redema Ottoman Footrest where it should be — under more people’s legs and feet so they can benefit.

Like the economy, the future of the Redema Ottoman Footrest is uncertain. It may be that once these are gone (and frankly there are not so many), I may just call this amazing adventure in product development of the Redema a done deal.

We immediately ran into Tyler, one of the radio personalities there, as she was on break in the snack room area. She’s pregnant with her second child, and my son Ian offered one of our Redemas in tow to borrow to rest up for her presentation. She told us she is using her Redema at home that was donated some time ago to Z88.3, which was very nice to hear — her Redema must be holding up pretty well! (Ian is enjoying getting to know Tyler from the other Z88.3 events they have held this summer, and matching faces with radio voices has been quite a brush with local greatness for him! In college, I worked at a Christian radio station as an announcer during my senior year, and it was a blast — so it is neat to see who is in front of the microphone these days for me as well.)

Modeling the Multilevels of the Redema

We then walked around, talking to different people there about the Redema Ottoman Footrest — moms of young ones, grandmothers, but most importantly the vendors who were targeting their products and services to these special ladies. One of the vendors we enjoyed meeting is just starting a new business as an on-location photographer named Kelli Todtenhagen of Winter Springs. Kelli and her business partner, Bekah Murray, were willing to do a sitting for us, modeling the Redemas we had — that’s not something you get a photographer to do everyday, is it? Bekah confessed she has circulation issues, so the height was a welcome change. It seems both of them enjoyed getting their feet up with dignity, don’t you think? Kelli can be reached at 407-461-8815 and will travel to most areas in Central Florida, I’m told.

Central Florida Birth Network Rests a Bit

In addition, we met up with a number of birth centers and networking groups. Among them was the Central Florida Birth Network, found at www.centralfloridabirthnetwork.com, where information can be found about doulas to yoga to lactation and more. One of the members also modeled using a Redema, but this was a first with an exercise ball!

Just before we left, we briefly met with Heart 2 Heart Birth Center, which can be found at www.h2hbirthcenter.com. They loved hearing my story about how my Redema was so helpful during my pregnancies, recovery from my c-section and support while nursing. Delightfully, I was invited to present sometime this fall at their center, and I can hardly wait. This group is very professional and caring, and I look forward to getting to know them and their services better.

All in all, the Little Ears Expo was a terrific event: Vendors of all kinds, generously sharing information and support to help moms get through the tough stuff a bit easier. My only sorrow is this event wasn’t around when I was pregnant with each of my guys! It was a pleasure to be there, and I look forward to next year’s event!
